Makata Tawanan's lively start with the Sikhayan Street Dance Champions: so many Sta Rosa sexy ladies would even make PSY jealous!
GMC's Sta. Rosa segment was a "Makata Adventure", one of the series in which presenter Makata Tawanan visits interesting places to meet local people, find out about local attractions and events, and sample local delicacies.
He met up with the dance champions from Santa Rosa Laguna's annual Sikhayan Festival (see following story) who were choreographed by Erma Solomon Jamon, and then with Mam Ofie Arcillas who introduced candidates for the Ginoong Santa Rosa 2013 Contest - so many Sta. Rosa sexy guys would even make PSY's sexy ladies jealous!
Makata Tawanan watches prizewinning cookery of Pancit Grade 1, and meets Mam Ofie Arcillas and the Ginoong Sta. Rosa candidates.
Food is always important to travelers, and Makata was no exception. Among other things he sampled some delicious prizewinning pancit and the Bok's Original Ice Cream for which Sta. Rosa is rightly famous.
He was also highly complimentary about the more mature dancers, who gave an immaculate performance for Good morning Club viewers, many of whom are senior corporate executives.
Bok's Ice Cream sandwiches the more mature dancers, but the dancers showed there's no limitation to their performance.
EXPRESSIVE, EXUBERANT, EXTREME AND EXCITING! WHAT A WAY TO CELEBRATE!
Performers give their all in the street dance contest of Santa Rosa City Laguna's Sikhayan Festival, held every year to celebrate
the enterprise, ingenuity and craftsmanship of its people.
MAYOR ARLENE ARCILLAS MARCHED IN THE MAIN STREETS OF THE CITY, ALONG WITH REP. TEDDY CASINO OF BAYAN MUNA PARTYLIST AND VICE MAYOR ARNEL GOMEZ. They were joined by the City Councilors, department heads and city employees, barangay officials, public and private schools, and representatives from the private sector.
The parade and street dancing started in Brgy. Balibago and culminated in the City Plaza for the street dance competition. The Festival is also held in conjunction with Santa Rosa's Founding Anniversary as a separate and independent town in the Province of Laguna 221 years ago. This year among others it was featured by CNN, by loQal, and by China Daily.
Eight national high schools competed for the Street Dancing Competition, which was the main attraction for foreign media. The schools were Aplaya National High School Extension, Aplaya National High School, Balibago National High School, Don Jose National High School, Pulong Santa Cruz National High School, Sto. Domingo National High School, Southville 4 National High School in Brgy. Cainging, and Santa Rosa Science and Technology High School (StarSci).
The theme of each presentation centered on the festivals in the respective barangays where their school is located. Winners were Aplaya NHS as 1st place, StarSci as 2nd place, and Balibago NHS as 3rd place.

Aside from Rep. Casiño, two other friends of the City came in to partake in the festivity – Philippine Red Cross (PRC) Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Richard Gordon, and Senator Loren Legarda. Sen. Legarda voiced her observation on Santa Rosa's beauty by saying "Maganda po ang inyong Mayor at maganda din po ang inyong siyudad."
She lauded the City's efforts on environmental preservation particularly on the Anti-Plastic Campaign and the 10-year Solid Waste Management Plan which she said is in harmony with the objectives of Republic Act 9003 also known as the Solid Waste Management Act which she authored.
She also encouraged the Rosenian people to participate in the tree planting activities that the City will launch this 2013. "Nagkausap kami ni Mayor Arlene at sabi niya she will initiate more tree planting activities this year and the Luntiang Pilipinas would gladly partake in these events," she said.
The Senator is the founder of Luntiang Pilipinas, a nationwide urban forestry program committed to the promotion of environmental protection and. She gave Santol seedlings as a gift to the City.
Gordon, through the Philippine Red Cross, also gave the Rosenian people a gift. He distributed Php3,000.00 under their Cash for Relief assistance to flood affected communities.
"This is our first time to give cash assistance. We decided to provide cash so they can cater to the immediate needs of our vulnerable fellows affected by Habagat last August," the former senator said. Beneficiaries are 24 families which were displaced by flooding and had to stay in evacuation center for a long period of time.

SANTA ROSA MAGAZINE HITS THE TOP
SPOT AGAIN IN GOOGLE SEARCHES
IT'S HAPPENED MANY TIMES IN THE PAST AND WILL HAPPEN MANY TIMES IN THE FUTURE. During the past 5+ years since the magazine of Santa Rosa City Laguna first appeared online, it has several times captured the top spot (excluding paid positions like Google's TripAdvisor ad above) of every major search engine on the internet. Why? Because it's dedicated to supporting all that's good in Sta. Rosa Laguna and to opposing all that's bad. And we recognize that as a rapidly growing city, its residents take an interest in global issues and have opinions on matters that affect them.
We don't claim to own Google's or any other top search position, which can change not only from day to day but also during any day. What we do claim with ample justification is that SRM is the most accepted and respected of any Sta. Rosa local media.
We sincerely appreciate all the local support, and the support of so many Filipino OFWs around the world, that bring us this position.

KEEP THE INTERNET FREE AND OPEN
WHEREVER YOU ARE IN THE WORLD, YOU ARE IN DANGER OF LOSING THE GREATEST ASSET WE ALL HAVE TO CONNECT AND COMMUNICATE WITH EACH OTHER. Once again the most corrupt politicians of the world are attempting to take control of the global internet for their own purposes of power and profit.
These politicians don't believe in freedom of speech or freedom to communicate. They don't want anyone to post photos or videos on the internet of scenes that politicians want to prevent the public from seeing. Like, for example, innocent women and children being massacred by Assad's army in Syria.
The internet is the greatest and most democratic force for good the world has experienced since the birth of Jesus, followed by invention of the printing press that enabled people everywhere to read the Bible and gain education from books.
The World Wide Web is free and open and available in every part of the globe. We must all join the multinational campaign of billions of people to keep it free and open and available to everyone. It must never be controlled by corrupt politicians, whatever nation they come from.
