National Children's Book Day at SM City Sta. Rosa was a big event for local children.
TOGETHER WITH MORE THAN A HUNDRED SCHOOLCHILDREN from public schools around Sta. Rosa City, Mayor Arlene Arcillas Nazareno celebrated National Children's Book Day via a storytelling activity on July 20, 2010 at SM City Sta. Rosa Laguna.
Mayor Nazareno delighted grade schoolers, teachers and principals alike as she gamely read Ang Mahiwagang Kamiseta as well as The Yummy Fly Pie, published by Vibal Publishing House.
The celebration of National Book Day at SM City Sta. Rosa was made possible through the efforts of the SM Children's Committee whose main aim is to create opportunities and avenues for kids' growth and learning. The activity was in cooperation with the Department
of Education, Vibal Publishing House, the Philippine Board on Books for Young People (PBBY), SM Foundation and the Local Government of Sta. Rosa City Laguna who provided transportation for the participating students. SM Foundation, on the other hand, extended their full support by donating 500 pcs. of old and new books to the 6 participating schools.

More than a hundred schoolchildren are enchanted by the City Mayor's reading.
Grade 2 students from six public schools namely, Balibago Elementary School, Centrals 1 and 2 Elementary School, Jose Zavalla Elementary School, Labas Elementary School and Pulong Sta. Cruz Elementary School participated in the event dubbed as “The Book Camp” which hopes to cultivate a love for reading and highlight children’s books as a tool that would reinforce rich and colorful imagination, instill proper values, encourage children to explore, widen their horizons and learn about other cultures.
